Week of Aug 31

Meeting with Alan to review printed version of the teaser (final review - we hope)

By the end of the week, the workbook & discover guide should be done and reviewed (twice)

Week of Aug 24

Wow - this is really hard. My 'B' activities are killing me (pun intended). If it were not for Alan's "pushiness" I would not get any 'A's done.

Also was not happy with last board meeting. I am not managing the discussions and too much time is on 'B' type talk.

Goals:
Complete sections 1 - 4, put the teaser to bed, and start workbook & discovery guide

Meeting with the executive board to workout issues relating to board discussions.

Week of July 13

Ideas for ibanning.com are coming together. This week I begin seeing how they can playout on the site.

I have also realized that my position the board of directors of my childrens' school is not really a 'B' activity but can be transformed into an 'A' activity. The proof: my first meeting as president of the board is next week and I am feeling a small knot in my stomach. I want to move the board in a new direction and am not sure how it will go over. This is a stretch goal for me in that I am advising on areas that I have no experience.

Week of July 6

FANTASTIC WEEKEND!
I practiced a few elevator pitches and will spend this week polishing one. I am also seeing how my hallpass needs to focus on educators and not be about me (and my consulting).

This week I will develop ibanning.com to reflect my 'A' business and not just my web work.

Also - I will connect with Lee to plan regular 'A' meetings

Week of June 15

The website continues to be my focus. Last week's goal of focusing on content was only slightly meet. After conversations with mentors, I realized that while one goal of the site is to provide reasons why "working with Rob" is benefit your organization, another and perhaps bigger goal is to describe the types of organizations with which I want to work. I need to articulate what I am looking for. This will be the focus of this week's "Feed My A List"

Week of June 8

Time to move ... I have been putting off the launch of the Hallpass & Friends website because I could not nail down my purpose, what it is that I do, and most importantly, the type of organizations that will benefit from my service.

This week - narrow down my purpose. Write it out and pass it around for feedback.

Next week - myhallpass.com launches

OUTCOME - success
We saw Frost/Nixon and Defiance at the Arclight in Hollywood. This was our first time visiting the Arclight since it was remodeled and were we in for a treat. Great picture, great sound, great experience. Seeing a movie at the Arclight makes one feel as if it were a special event. Sure the prices are a bit higher, but its worth it.

GOAL -
Film Festival Day III

OUTCOME - success
Despite having some setbacks in the morning and having to reschedule the film, we did get to see Gran Torino. I was tempted to postpone addressing some problems that popped up in the morning in regard to focusing on the movie - my A activity. While giving these A activities priority is important, some problems are better address immediately for if they are postponed, they will take longer to resolve. Thus, rearranged the day to provide for the A activity and handled the problem immediately. Flexibility with an eye on what counts is important.

Goal
(same as yesterday) Complete the overview and outline the presentation for "Introduction to Social Bookmarking", first lesson in my forthcoming course: "Delicious - Innovations in Education".

Outcome - Success
This was really a partial success in that I completed the overview as well as the Flash player for narratives. This latter work took a while to do and reminded me that I need not be a protectionist but instead create a decent framework so that future improvements can be made to the component.

January 13, 2009

Goal
Complete the overview and outline the presentation for "Introduction to Social Bookmarking", first lesson in my forthcoming course: "Delicious - Innovations in Education".

Outcome - failure
In the process of completing the overview, I caught caught up with how much Flash has changed. It has been a few years since I developed in Flash and I found myself amazed how the product/environment has changed. This shows the allure of going off on tangents. While such journeys are often very rewarding, I should have completed my goal and then explored the new features of Flash, not the other way around. Live and Learn

Monday, January 12, 2009

January 12, 2009

Goal
Complete the framework for "Introduction to Social Bookmarking", the first lesson in my forthcoming course: "Delicious - Innovations in Education".

Project Description
"Delicious - Innovations in Education" is the first of what I hope will be many courses offered through Hallpass and Friends. It involves numerous lessons including the basics of social bookmarking and using Delicous through using social bookmarking in education and even more advanced topics such as the Delicious API.

What is Hallpass?
Hallpass and Friends is an organization that I founded almost five years ago and have never given sufficient time to get it off the ground. Thus, you will see references to Hallpass in many of these 'A' List goals as one of my bigger goals is to move this organization from just a vision to a reality. Check back in future postings as I continue to answer "What is Hallpass?"

Outcome - success
Completed the framework

Overview

So what is "Feed My A List"?

"The key is not to prioritize what's on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities."

Stephen Covey understands the importance of starting with the most important. I have been advising colleagues, clients, leaders, and friends on the value of starting your day with clear goals so that you focus on the important, minimize time on the "Killer B's", and gain a sense of control and moving forward in your life.

An "A List" is comprised of those tasks that make possible living life to the fullest, living our your dreams. These tasks move you forward, challenge you, even scare you. Their payoffs are usually in the future or may not even be clear (at least in monetary terms). 'A' activities help define your passion, your mission in life.

As
Goethe said: "Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter the least." Thus, it is important to start the day by setting a goal (or two). What 'A' activity do you want to do today? Starting your day by thinking of your 'A's and then arranging your day around this goal, you are focusing on your priorities.

But like all great consultants, teachers, leaders - do as I say, not as I do!

I have decided to post my "A List" both as a way of keeping track of my priorities and as a way of holding myself accountable. Each day, I will post my goal of the day along with a short description or link to the project. I would love to hear comments on any of these projects especially if you are working on a similar project and would like to share thoughts/experiences.
